Don’t deface roads - polls chief

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya requested candidates, activists of political parties and independent groups in respect of the Eastern, North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council elections to refrain from writing, painting and stenciling the party or group election symbols, names of candidates and numbers on the highway.

“It must be brought to the notice of the persons engaged in such activity that it is a violation of election laws as well,

as it could damage the highway.

‘Paints and inks could lead to the increase in road accidents,” the Commissioner said in a release yesterday.
