Work on Kalladi Bridge over next year

The proposed new Kalladi Bridge, considered to be the largest bridge in Sri Lanka built at a cost of Rs 1,700 million, will be completed in February next year.

Deputy Minister A L A M Hisbullah gave this assurance to a group of journalists from the South who visited the construction site on an inspection tour organised by the Government Information Department recently.


Tipplers in hot water

Ten persons who consumed liquor in public places were fined Rs 500 each by Attanagalla magistrate and additional district judge B D R Sisira Kumara.

The suspects were arrested during a raid by the Nittanbuwa Police Vice Squad.


Fined for illegal sand mining

Paldeniya Circuit Court magistrate Rangani Gamage imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a person found guilty of illegal sand mining at a channel reservation.

Mahawela Police produced the suspect of Mahawela area in court.


Man aged 73 abuses minor

The Nawalapitiya magistrate ordered to remand a man aged 73 for allegedly abusing a girl aged 13.

The Nawalapitiya Police arrested the man on a complaint made by the Rasajangama Village Grama Sevaka and produced him before the magistrate. The victim was admitted to the Nawalapitiya Hospital.


Injured by sword

Dickwella Polic are on the trail of suspects who caused injuries to a mother and son using a sword.

The mother has been admitted to the Matara General Hospital.

Dickwella Police said two suspects have been identified in connection with the assault.


Tipper collides with bulldozer

A tipper loaded with fruits collided with a bulldozer injuring a person at the Karaitivu junction on the Karaitivu-Ampara main road on Friday. Samanthurai Police are investigating.


Three injured in accident

Three teenage boys, critically injured were hospitalized when a motorcycle crashed on to a telephone post, Dickwella police said.

The accident occurreed at Godaula, and it is reported that the boys were travelling on the bike without helmets.

One boy, critically injured was admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital. The other two boys are also under treatment.

Dickwella Police are investigating.
