Elderly woman found dead

Pamunugama Police commenced an investigation into the death of a 73-year-old woman whose body was found at her home in Sedawaththa, Pamunugama on Monday.

Police identified the deceased as Mary Fernando of Sedawatte. Negombo magistrate has commenced the inquiry.

The body was sent to the Ragama hospital for the postmortem.

Nabbed with hand grenade

A person was arrested with a foreign made hand grenade while he was travelling on a motorcycle at a random check yesterday by the Beliatta Police.

He is a wanted suspect in connection to a crime where money and valuables were snatched at gun point in Beliatta.

Accident kills worker

A man, 20, injured when an iron block fell on him, succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Ja Ela hospital on Monday.

The victim, S Punyakumar of Agarapathana, was working at a private steel company when the accident occurred.

Police said a cable of the mobile crane he was operating broke, which caused the iron block to fall on him.

Netted with cannabis

Two persons arrested with 6 kgs of cannabis were remanded until June 21 by the Wellawaya magistrate.

The suspects, residents of Lunugamwehera and Tanamalwila, were arrested on Sunday at Tanamalwila by a Hambantota camp STF officer.
