House adjourns due to tension
Parliament was adjourned for 10 minutes yesterday following a tense
situation that arose when UPFA member Arundika Fernando commenced to
speak on the regulation under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act.
It occurred when presiding member A H M Azwer allowed Arundika
Fernando to join the debate ordering DNA MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake to
stop his speech.
The member in the Chair ordered Anura Kumara Dissanayake to stop the
speech saying he continuously deviated from the topic despite the
Chair’s orders not to do so.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake continued to speak of the Katuwana incident
disregarding the instructions of the Chair.
The presiding member then suspended the sittings at 3.35 pm and
resumed at 3.45 pm.
