Naval troops attached to SLNS Pandukabhaya of the North-central Naval Command saved the life of an elephant at Kudahalmillewa in Poonewa recently.

The elephant had wandered into the village in the night and had fallen into an abandoned agricultural well.

Informed about the incident by the Grama Niladhari, Naval personnel rushed to the location and pulled out the trapped elephant to safety with a backhoe, in a one and half hour effort, supported by villagers.

Once set free, the elephant fled into the jungle .
