National Water Trust to make projects community-based

Water Supply and Drainage Ministry Secretary and National Water Trust
chairman Amarananda Abegunasekera told the Daily News the Water Supply
and Drainage Ministry established the National Water Trust to make
countrywide water supply projects community-based.
Already 3,600 Community based water supply projects are activated
throughout the country.
“Community based water supply projects have been initiated in the
Hambantota, Matara, Ratnapura, Badulla, Colombo, Gampaha and
Anuradhapura with Treasury funds. The Treasury has allocated Rs. 50
million for payment of salaries and other activities for the current
year,” he said.
