SLFP expresses displeasure at Katuwana incident

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday expressed its displeasure over the shooting incident which took place in Katuwana, Walasmulla targeting a JVP propaganda rally.

The SLFP in a press release said it wished to express its deepest condolences to the families of the two victims Mrs E M Malani and Nimantha Roshan. The release signed by SLFP Treasurer and Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said as a party which itself faced violence in the Sri Lankan political field and paid a heavy price to defend democracy the SLFP will not think twice to express its anger and abhorrence about acts of this nature.

However, in the name of democracy the SLFP denounced attempts made by certain parties and individuals to make this incident a cats paw to be used for their vituperative politics because it considered it as its duty for the sake of democracy.

Bringing the culprits involved in this crime to book and punishing them is a social need. It is only then that honour we gained as an exemplary nation which defeated terrorism under the brave leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa can be made more sacred.
