A concert by virtuoso violinist Danish Ali
Virtuoso violinist Danish Ali will be giving a classical music
performance at Lumbini Theatre, Colombo, on June 22 at 6.30 p.m. It is
open to the public and is free charge.
An innate artistry and technical brilliance combined with a rare and
exquisite emotional quality are considered to be the hallmarks of Danish
Ali’s style. He has completely revolutionized the technique of playing
the violin by taking this instrument close to vocal music. His playing
is characterized by an immaculate bowing and playing technique brought
about by the dexterous use of his fingers, command over all aspects of
rhythm, richness and clarity in pitch and tone.
Danish gave solo performances on stage at a very young age. He has
given a number of programmes in India and abroad as a solo performer and
as an accompanist. Constantly propelled from Singapore to Paris, from
Delhi to Los Angeles, he has conquered every audience with the elegance
and virtuosity of his style.
Grandson of Sursagar Nawaz late Ustad Mohammad Ali Khan, who was the
disciple of the Sarangi wizard Ustad Bundu Khan Sahab, Danish has had
the privilege of learning from his grandfather and his uncle late Ustad
Ahmed Ali Khan. Born and brought up in the traditional family of music,
Danish has learnt from his uncle Aleem Khan the Dilli gharana. Currently
he is being groomed with the nuances of the gayaki ang by Ustad Iqbal
Ahmad Khan, the doyen of the Dilli gharana.
Persistent hard work and excellent training have rewarded him with
sustained tunefulness, grammatical accuracy and technical virtuosity
with effortless ease. The concert on the 22nd would be a treat for Sri
Lankan music lovers.
