Navy prevents fire from spreading

The Navy's prompt action prevented a major fire from spreading in the heart of Kalpitiya Town on Friday.

A Fire Fighting Unit from SLNS Vijaya of the North-western Naval Command rushed to the location and extinguished the fire.

The fire had erupted around 8.45am in a furniture shop and a nearby pastry shop.

The Navy, alerted by Kalpitiya Police and Pradeshiya Sabha, promptly despatched assistance and stopped the fire from spreading. No casualties were reported. The Navy's timely action averted extensive damage to adjacent buildings.
