Consular Corps of London laud govt’s hospitality
The Consular Corps of London which was on a fact
finding visit to Sri Lanka will open doors for extending bilateral
relations between Sri Lanka and other countries. A delegation which
represented the Consular Corps of London headed by its President,
the Consul General of Cyprus, George Georgio last week appreciated
the overwhelming hospitality by the Government of Sri Lanka and the
Tourist Board at a press briefing at Cinnamon Lakeside before their
departure.

Emirates Lounge at BIA boost to tourism
The formal opening of the high profile Emirates
Lounge at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Katunayake on
Friday will reiterate the pledge of continued support to Sri Lanka’s
tourism industry through award winning air services. “The investment
of Rs 200 million in this premium lounge is a further value addition
to the airline’s offering in Colombo as well as to the facilities at
the BIA. Emirates is happy to make this investment, which is also
reflects our optimism about the prospects for growth in
post-conflict Sri Lanka,” Emirates Airline President Tim Clark said.

IMF praises govt’s fiscal policies
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) commended
the policies taken by the government to address the imbalances in
the economy. “The economic future is bright and the policies will be
beneficial in the long run. The economy should grow by around 6.75
percent this year as tighter macroeconomic policies work to ease
demand to a more sustainable pace. However, the uncertain global
environment poses a down-side risk, IMF Mission Head John Nelmes
said.

Total investment exceeds US$ 4 b:
BOI signs highest ever FDI project
The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka signed an
agreement with Sri Lanka Gateway Industries (Private)Limited, to
spearhead Sri Lanka’s highest value ever Foreign Direct Investment
project, forthe development, operation and management of a special
industrial zone for heavy industries, in the Trincomalee District.
As per the agreement this project will come under the Strategic
Development Act.
