SL mine clearance, most efficient in the world

Both local and foreign experts yesterday called Sri Lanka’s mine clearance programme, the most efficient in the world. As per an initial survey carried out by authorities it was estimated that there may be about one million landmines and unexploded ordnances(UXOs) in the abandoned battle fields, at the end of the conflict in 2009.

Suspect who burgled over 25 houses in Athurugiriya arrested

The Police arrested a man who had allegedly burgled over 25 houses in Athurugiriya. The Police raided his house and recovered several stolen items. Among the stolen goods were six laptops, an LCD television, two wristwatches worth around Rs 250,000, five cameras, a projector, a home theatre system and 25 sovereigns.
