Cannabis seized
Two persons were arrested with Kg 3.5 of cannabis at Kassim road in
Valachchenai on Monday. Valachchenai Police stopped a double cab on
Kassim road and found the stock of cannabis hidden in the vehicle. The
suspects were to be produced before the Valachchenai Magistrate's Court
yesterday.

Treasure hunters arrested
Bakamuna Police arrested two persons while they were hunting for
treasure at Track 8, Galmulla road in Bakamuna on Monday. Police also
seized some other items. They were to be produced before Bakamuna
magistrate yesterday.

Heroin suspect remanded
A suspect who was caught with a stock of heroin at Kalutara railway
station has been remanded until April 20 by Kalutara magistrate. Police
caught the suspect, a resident of Wellaweediya with more than 20 grams
of heroin at the Kalutara south railway station on Sunday.

Death of foreign national
A foreigner who suddenly fell ill while working at the Norochcholai
Thermal Power Plant died on admission to the Puttalam Base hospital on
Monday. The body of the 35 year old man was sent to the Kuliyapitiya
hospital morgue for a post mortem. Kalpitiya Police are investigating.

Timber seized
Two persons were arrested at the Kalupalama Police check point on
Wenkaladi- Badulla road in Eraur on Monday while trying to transport 27
logs of sandalwood.
Police also seized the lorry which was transporting the illegally
felled timber. The suspects were produced before the Batticaloa
Magistrate's Court and granted bail.

Child dies
A four year old child died and his brother and father were injured
when the three wheeler they were travelling incollided with a private
bus at Hegalla in Kosgoda. Tharul Nethmika of Boossa was first admitted
to the Balapitiya hospital and transferred to the Karapitiya hospital
where he succumbed on Monday. His father , the three wheeler driver and
the other child are being treated at the Balapitiya hospital.The driver
of the private bus was arrested and remanded until yesterday. Kosgoda
Police are investigating.

Dies in explosion
The reason for the death of an ex -service personnel whose body was
found in his home in Homagama on Monday was internal bleeding caused by
injuries to the body by an explosion, the post mortem investigation
revealed.
Police found his body in his home with injuries and also spotted
blood stains in the room. The judicial medical analysis was carried out
by JMO Asanthi S Gunasekara at the Kalubowila hospital.
The post mortem report confirmed that death was caused by internal
bleeding as a result of injuries to the heart, kidney and lungs of the
victim. Police said that he had blown himself by packing explosives to a
bottle and setting fire to explode it .
