MAS Unichela B win Il Gelato Cup

Opening batsman Dhanushka Gunatillake, with an unbeaten 88 runs in 91 balls inclusive of three sixes and five fours guided MAS Unichela 'B' to a four wicket victory over Jananshakthi Insurance PLC 'A' to walk away with Il Gelato Ice Cream Cup 2012 at Colts grounds on Saturday.

Former champions Janashakthi "A" having put into bat made 212 all out in 48.1 overs. In reply Mas Unichela B reached the revised target of 202 by scoring 205 with only losing six wickets in 45.1 overs.

Openers, Indika Massalage (30) and Dilan Udugamsuriya (26), put on 62 runs for Janashakthi but soon were in trouble with four wickets down for 75.

M Pushpakumara (48) and K. Magage (40) took the total to 172 with a needy partnership of 97 runs. Unichela, chasing a target of 213 got off to a good start with Muditha Wijekoon and Dhanushka Gunatillake putting on 52 runs in 10.2 overs.

Towards the end of the innings the match was suspended for bad light when the score was 130 for 3 in 31 overs and as the light improved, the match resumed at 4.45 pm, with Unichela to chase a revised target of 202 in 47 overs.

Dhanushka Gunatillake (3 for 38 and 88 not out) was adjudged the man-of-the-match. The other 03 special awards, based on performances in the league stage matches went to, Ruwan Sampath from Janashakthi (Best bowler/18 wickets for 226), Amira Rabel from Nations Trust Bank (Best Batsman / 295 runs in 04 innings) and Janidu Devinda from Textured Jersey (Man of the Tournament / 195 runs and 13 wickets).
