Entries for all-Island Pro Karting C'ships close tomorrow
Go Karting has been a feeder for Formula 1 for a long period of time
with the likes of Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel
and many more entering formula 1 and there after becoming champions of
the sport.
Sri Lanka is long from that level of Formula 1, but that does not
mean we lack the talent to do so, and that talent is quite evident at
the Speedrome Karting Centre in Battaramulla especially during the All
Island Pro Karting Championship.
For three years running Speedome Pro Karting Championship has pumped
in a number of young racing talents into the Motorsport industry of Sri
Lanka. This year too, the Championship will run in 3 rounds spaced out
throughout the year and will be run in 4 Classes; Ladies Event, Under
18, Novices and Open Class, out of which a selected number of talented
Karters will be given a two day training at Pannala conducted by the
reputed Formula Single Seater Instructor from India, Akbar Ebrahim in
the Formula McLarens 1300 Single Seater cars from which the Top ten will
run the same series at the annual Speed Championship held at the Pannala
Race track next year.
This year, the Speedrome Pro Karting Championship will be partnered
by Frontier Automotive and David Pieris Motor Company and will be known
as the "All Island Range Rover Evogue Pro Karting Championship 2012".
Entries for the Championship Round 1 will be open till tomorrow and the
dates for the next two rounds will be informed to the participants on a
later date.
