Schols for top O/L students

Education Minister Bandula Gunewardena presented 30 scholarships to students who performed exceptionally at the 2010 GCE Ordinary Level examination.

Speaking on the occasion Minister Gunewardena appreciated Dialog's generosity and contribution towards enhancing the educational opportunities in the country. He mentioned that a number of local and international organizations are supporting the government to modernize the education system.

Referring to the revolution in the education sector created by the father of free education C W W Kannangara with 54 central colleges nationwide, Minister Gunewardena said that the 1000 School programme will take the country towards meeting the educational need of the 21st century.

The 'Dialog Merit Scholarships' were started in 2003 and this year's scholars will receive Rs 2,500 per month for 24 months. Students, school principals and parents participated at the ceremony held yesterday at the Ministry of Education auditorium.
