Best Corporate Citizen Award in November
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said that the applications for the
Best Corporate Citizen Award closed on September 7 and an independent
evaluation panel is currently evaluating the entries to select the most
deserving award winners.
The annual award intends to promote strategic corporate
sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) among the Sri
Lankan business sector.
The Chamber Secretariat said that from this year onwards the panel
has decided to incorporate areas in the Global Reporting Initiative
(GRI) as part of the review process, thereby further improving the
coverage of the award. This year also the organization will recognize
outstanding CSR projects undertaken by private and public sector
(government) entities in a vast range of activities. Thus, five best CSR
projects will be awarded while all projects that have achieved a high
standard will receive certificates of merit.
The Chamber Secretariat have received many applications vying for
this prestigious award, not only from the organizations that have been
consistently applying for the awards for the past few years, but also
from several newcomers. General Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Deputy
Secretary Alikic Perera said “This is indeed testimony that more and
more corporates in our country are increasingly getting involved in CSR
activities and that they are actively promoting and making positive
contributions to the societies in which they operate. Moreover, the
volume of applications that we have received this year affirms the ever
increasing popularity of the Best Corporate Citizens award among the
business community of the country.” The Best Corporate Citizen Award
2011, will be held for the eighth consecutive year on November 4 at the
Cinnamon Grand Colombo.
