Ramazan messages

Day of Reward

“Moors’ Islamic Cultural Home (Inc) wishes to extend its greetings to the Muslim Umma who celebrate Ramazan. We are really happy in sharing the joy with all our brothers and sisters on this holy occasion.

“Ramazan is one of the two great festivals in the Islamic Calendar. This festival has been described as the “Day of Reward” by Prophet Mohammed which marks the completion of a month long fast and the day of thanksgiving to Allah for having enabled us to perform our duty of fasting on His command. “The affluent Muslims who are more fortunate are expected to part some of their wealth with the poor and needy, as prescribed in the Quran throughout the world on this day, where all Muslims are celebrating Eid after a month of fasting. “We pray to Allah to extend the peaceful atmosphere to every part of our motherland which had seen much sufferings among all communities in the past and permanent peace and happiness to prevail under the able leadership of the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa.”

“May all us resolve to live peaceful and an exemplary life according to the teachings laid down in the Quran and the message of Prophet Mohammed. May Allah Bless all of us with Peace and Prosperity. Eid Mubarak.” Omar Kamil,

Islam connotes peace - A H M Azwer

Islam connotes peace and peace in its fullest form is what was ushered into this Splendid isle by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in May 2009, after three dastardly decades of terrorism, murder and mayhem. As set out in the Mahinda Chinthanaya, displaced Muslims are now returning to their original homes, said Member of Parliament A H M Azwer in a Ramazan message.

The full text of the message: Ramazan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and it is a month of great significance. The first five aayats of Al-Qur’an (now part of Sura-96: Al-Alaq: The Clot) were revealed via Angel Jibreel (A.S.) to Prophet Muhammad (on whom be peace) at age 40 in the heights of Mount Hira wherein he was meditating on the 27th night in the month of Ramazan, in AD-610:

“1. Read (Proclaim)! In the name of your Lord, Who has created all that exists.

2. Has created man from a clot.

3. Read (Proclaim)! And your Lord is the Most Generous.

4. Who has taught by the pen.

5. Has taught man that which he knew not.”

“Thereafter, began the continual process of revelations of the Suras of Al-Qur’an, spanning 23-years, upto the time of the Prophet’s demise. Hence, Muslims all over the world, in reverence to this holy month, hold a rigorous dawn to dusk fast, wherein they absolutely abstain from food, drink and sex while in the state of fasting, during this entire lunar month of 29 or 30-days. Of the five principles of Islam, fasting is the fourth.

“Muslims have served as a catalyst between communities at various times in the isle’s history. As endorsed in their respective publications by eminent personalities such as Prof K M de Silva, Dr Lorna Devaraja and Dr M A M Shukri, Muslims have fostered friendship with the majority Sinhala community for over a 1,000 years, and it is envisaged that such noble nexus will continue in the same if not better strain in the future years.

Muslims have also lived in harmony amongst the Tamil community, as discerned in the Eastern regions, and with all other minority communities.

“Muslims in Sri Lanka once again rejoice this grand festive day of Eid-Ul-Fitr, looking forward to another year of peace, prosperity, harmony amongst all communities and happiness.

“I wish everyone a happy Eid-Ul-Fitr.”

“Ramazan has also been a month for forgiveness, tolerance, generosity and humanitarian deeds. Above all, it is a month to seek protection, guidance, strength and support of Allah towards peaceful life and the successful attainments of our goals.

“Now it is time for us to resolve to work hard to turn our motherland a land of peace, prosperity and development, to make it as the Wonder of Asia, as aspired by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“As patriotic citizens of the country, every Muslim, in his prayer today seeks Allah’s blessings for the protection of our country from natural hazards and from men with evil minds; to make it a stronger nation to be able to face all challenges, locally and internationally. As Muslims, it is our belief that, unfailingly, Allah grants our pleas if we ask for it with true piety and purity of heart.

“Our main task ahead of us is to establish lasting peace in the country where it will create an environment so that people of all communities will be ensured adequate safeguard to their life, property, dignity and honour, besides facilitating the fulfilment of our goals.”

“To achieve this, we must take care to maintain internal unity of our Ummah shunning trivial differences and to act in unison with regard to matters affecting the community and the country. On Eidul Fitr, I appeal to the Muslims of Sri Lanka to rededicate themselves with newer energy gained from dutiful submission to Allah and to resolve to meet the challenges of the future. “I convey my sincere greetings to all my Muslim brothers and sisters. Eid Mubarak.”

Minister Wimal Weerawansa

Understanding life through fasting

“It is indeed a great pleasure to extend greetings on behalf of the National Freedom Front to the Islam devotees here and abroad who are celebrating the Ramazan festival today. “Through fasting the Islam devotees improve their understanding of life by experiencing the pangs of hunger. Ramazan also helped them to foster brotherhood, co-existence and sacrifice. On this great day, we should all realize that the greatest challenge before us all is to ensure the country’s economic prosperity, while protecting our national identity to achieve this Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims should eschew petty differences and unite as a single nation.”

Islam encourages unity

“Today the people of Sri Lanka are living in peace, harmony and good rapport to build up a new Sri Lanka. People should learn to be patient and build up tolerance to taste the fruits.

“Muslims who have a much back dated history in this country, has always contributed towards the development and endeavours. Islam strongly encourage unity and brotherhood among communities. So, we must hold hands together to build this nation, to a land of prosperity.

“Muslims throughout the world are at the verge of completing one Holy month of fasting and indulging in religious activities for the betterment of spiritual and personality development and preparing for the festival day, Eid-ul-Fitr. I send my whole hearted ‘Eid Mubarak’ wishes to all Muslim brethren.”

Pray for tolerance

“I am wishing all Muslims of our beloved Sri Lanka a peaceful Eid amidst the dark clouds of uncertainty where the Muslims of the world at large have to still face the consequences of colonial oppression, and exploitation,” says Rauff Hakeem MP, Minister of Justice and the Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress in his Eid Ul Fitr message.

Referring to the turmoil that has engulfed West Asia and a part of Africa and the violence that Muslims have had to face recently at the hands of some mystery bogey men, he said despite these obstacles and violence that they faced, Muslims have steadfastly held on to the steely resolve of tolerance and peace following the path of the Holy Quran and the way of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him).”

The wounds of the war that has ended should be healed in a way that our future generations will not see its ugly scars.

The Muslims uprooted from the Northern Province have to be resettled with adequate infrastructure facilities and in an environment of harmony and security.

”Let us pray that the lives of Muslims in Sri Lanka and abroad, will bring brighter prospects in the Ramazan that greets us with hope. Let us also pray for tolerance. Let us pray for understanding each other in a spirit of common humanity in a multicultural community in our homeland Sri Lanka and in the Global Community where we will be judged justly and fairly as a nation that has overcome adversity with great sacrifices made and yet holding dear to the finest ideals of respecting the sanctity of life and liberty.”

”I wish a peaceful Eid to all of you personally and on behalf of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
