A major boost in Sri Lankan economy
In a world facing with multitudes of economic
problems, the United States facing its worst debt crisis for the
several decades, European countries struggling to save their
economies following the economic downfall of Greece and Spain,
several hundred dying daily in Ethiopia, Somalia and several other
drought hit African countries, Sri Lanka which was until a few years
ago a country of ship to mouth existence has made rapid development
in its economy due to the programmes being carried out based on
Mahinda Chinthana policies.

A note on ocean transcripts
Over 20 years ago, one night in August, my
friend Mahendra 'Patta' Silva and I took a walk by the sea. I think
it was from Bambalapitiya to Wellawatte, along the railway track. He
told me that the sea always calms and explained why. He said that
each human being is calmed by a particular combination of sounds,
tones if you will. The sea contains the entire range, he said, and
therefore is able to pick that particular node of sensitivity to the
extent necessary for subduing all agitation.

The second half of the 19th century marked the
period in which British rule in this country was consolidated.
Systematic use of the nation’s resources and introduction of a
decentralized administration commenced during this period. But the
commercial exploitation of this land was designed to ultimately
benefit the colonizer. Concurrently the British also initiated a
subtle campaign of religious indoctrination and an equally and
deliberate erosion of this nation’s culture and heritage, again for
the long-term benefit of their rule.
