President, Maldivian VP discuss regional matters

Maldives Vice President Dr. Mohammed Waheed Hassan who is on a three
day visit to Sri Lanka, called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple
Trees yesterday and held cordial discussions regarding regional matters.
Dr. Waheed, who arrived in the island after two years expressed his
pleasure to the President over the rapid development achieved by the Sri
Lankan government during this short period. He said that Colombo city
has developed tremendously and he applauded the cleanliness and the
beauty of the city.
During the meeting, the Maldivian vice President appreciated the
support extended by Sri Lanka to the Maldivian Republic in numerous
ways.
Both leaders recalled the close and friendly relations between Sri
Lanka and the Maldives, and exchanged views on further strengthening the
bilateral relationship.
President Rajapaksa also pointed out the importance of mutual
cooperation among the regional countries to create a more peaceful
environment.
Maldivian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Hussain Shihab was also
present on the occasion.
