Voters who do not have National Identity Cards or other proof of
identity as approved by the Elections Commissioner to cast their vote at
the forthcoming Local Government election, can apply for temporary
identity cards through the respective Grama Niladharis.
According to Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohammed, voters who
are qualified to cast their vote at the forthcoming Local Government
election to elect members for 23 LG bodies can apply for temporary
identity cards.
He said that the voters who have already been issued identity cards
can get their validity period extended through the respective Grama
Niladharis too.
Mohammed said that the Department has not yet decided whether the
Local Government election in the Maritime Pattu and Pudukuduirrippu
Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Mullaitivu district will be held in October.
“We inquired from the Mullaitivu District Secretary whether the election
can be held in these Pradeshiya Sabha areas as a number of people in
these areas have not been resettled in their original places due to
heavy minefield”, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said the Department has not received the
report from the Mullaitivu District Secretary and action would be taken
once they received it. |
