'Wrong' rings land woman in grief

A 25-year-old woman who tried to mortgage 15 fake gold rings to a branch of a state bank in Hatton was nabbed by Hatton Police following a tip-off by the bank staff recently. Police said the woman resident in Gaminipura had tried to mortgage 15 rings and obtain Rs 89,000 from the bank.

One person bringing 15 rings at a time for mortgaging had aroused suspicion among the bank staff who informed the Police about it. Investigations revealed that the rings had been made of bronze and gold plated to make them look like real gold rings.

Police investigations are continuing directed by SP Ravi Chandrasinghe under the supervision of senior DIG H N B Ambanwela.
