The National Business Excellence Awards 2011 organized by the
National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will be held in November 30 at
Colombo Hilton.
The National Business Excellence Awards (NBEA) is a unique award
scheme that felicitates the power houses of the economy.
This is a mechanism to encourage the business community to achieve
excellence in their respective ventures where the recognition brings
benefits, Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC Chairman and NBEA Steering Committee
Chairman Sunil G. Wijesinha told Daily News Business.
The NBEA is designed to recognize business organizations making a
significant contribution to the socio- economic development of the
country through exemplary business practices. A team of best
professionals have worked out the criteria for marking scheme, judging,
designing the trophies and many other details critical to the excellence
of the event, he said.
The NBEA commenced in 2004 and this unique model of awards has
recognized top class businesses which excelled in their performance
every year.
The evaluation perspectives are business and financial performance,
global reach, knowledge integration, technology investments, capacity
building, excellence in performance management practices, corporate
governance and corporate social responsibility.
“We believe that if the business organizations have the composite of
these perspectives which are enablers, they are excellent. In addition
to overall winners there will be winners from each sector ranging from
micro, small, medium, large and extra large. Since the manufacturing
sector is larger there are sub divisions to accommodate more sectors,”
he said.
The short-listed will be interviewed by a panel of judges headed by
Prof Uditha Liyanage.
Globally there are business excellence models to motivate business
community and to adopt best practices and to ensure sustainability. The
award winners of the past have progress to greater heights.
India takes this awards scheme seriously and even in Sri Lanka
applying for the NBEA is a huge investment.
“The number of applications increased every year and there were 178
applicants last year. There is a good response for this year and the
closing date of applications is September 10,” Wijesinha said. |
