People will accept President’s forward march:

Govt dedicated to free, fair poll - SLFP Gen Secy

Minister
Maithripala Sirisena

SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena stressed that the government and the SLFP have been dedicated to ensure free, fair and impartial elections for the 65 local government bodies on Saturday, including 19 local government bodies in Killinochchi and Jaffna districts. He also affirmed that the people will once again accept the President’s forward march by giving a landslide victory for the ruling party in the local government elections on Saturday.

Addressing a press briefing at the Mahaweli Centre yesterday he said that the government is witnessing a massive support from the public in the Northern Province.

He also observed that none of the opposition parties has been actively involved in the local government election campaign. He stated that the competition for preferential votes has been intensified within the UPFA due to the drowsiness of the opposition parties in the elections. SLFP Treasurer and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma noted that democratic rights of the Tamil speaking community in the North which were seized on July 23, 1983 will be bestowed back to them on July 23 of this year through a democratic election.
