LCIF funds to meet MDGs
The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has granted US$
50,000 to Sri Lanka to meet the Millennium Development Goals of
Improving Maternal Health and curbing child mortality.
The project is implemented in the Batticaloa District by the Lions
Clubs of Batticaloa and Colombo Orient in association with the office of
the Regional Director, Health Services Batticaloa and the Family Health
Bureau.
Ex-Japanese PM in A'pura
Former Japanese Prime Minister Yaso Fukuda will visit Anuradhapura
today.
He will arrive in Anuradhapura at 11.00 a.m. and pay a courtesy call
on Atamasthanadhipathi Ven. Dr. Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera. He will pay
homage to Sri Maha Bodhi and visit other places of religious and
historical significance.
'Thirukkural' conference
The Colombo Tamil Sangam will hold 'Thirukkural' conference from July
22 to 24 presided over by Dr M Kathiragamananthan, President of the
Sangam. R Ragupathy Balasritharan, General Secretary of the Sangam will
deliver the welcome speech and M Kanapathipillai, Educational Secretary
of the Tamil Sangam will deliver the inaugural address. Professor Aranga
Ramalingam of the University of Chennai will deliver a special lecture
on 'Thirukuralil Irai Neri'.
Paduru Sajjaya
The Past Pupils Association of Ananda Sastralaya Kotte will hold a
Paduru Sajjaya in aid of Sports development in the School at Samanala
New Reception hall, Kimbulawala, Madiwela on July 31 at 6.30 p.m.
