Late rally helps Kandy win 22-11

Table leaders Kandy Sports Club produced a superb late rally to pull off a hard fought 22-11 victory over Sri Lanka Police Sports Club in their Caltex Inter-Club A division league rugby tournament match worked off at the Police Park in Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Young Madugalle drives to win a double

Young Praveen Madugalle stole the limelight yesterday at the Speed Championship 2011 Round II meet winning a double. Driving his Formula Mclarens 1300cc in the first race of the day was a clear winner getting off to a fine start from the pole position. Ryan Todd and Dharsha Pathirana were the runners up in this event. The biggest fight was seen between Dharsha and Ryan for the second and third places.

Fighting Lankans lose 29-54

Despite a splendid second half rally Sri Lanka went down to the defending champions Japan 29-54 in their Junior Rugby Asiad opening fixture worked off in Hong Kong yesterday. The winners collected their points from seven goals and one try after having built up a commanding 28-8 lead at half time. Sri Lanka responded with three goals, one try and one penalty.
