Institute of Supply and Materials Management holds convocation
The Institute of Supply and Materials Management held its nineteenth
Convocation on April 9 at Galle Face Hotel. Irrigation and Water
Resources Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was the chief guest and Prima
Ceylon (Private) Limited General Manager Ong Jhon Seon Jay was the Guest
of Honour.
The Minister distributed the Diploma awards to the 37 students who
passed out after a study program of three years. Irrigation and Water
Resources Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said that he is very
impressed with the quality of professionals the ISMM has produced.
He also said that Supply Chain Professionals are required to manage
the resources cost effectively. He said that it is sad to realize that
most of the students are from leading private sector organizations and
not from the public sector.
The focus of the public sector to such important field is of utmost
importance and he will take up this matter with the relevant authorities
to ensure that public sector employees too will obtain such
qualification to manage the resources of the government to bring cost
effective operation.
He also said that ISMM has been recognized and affiliated to the
international bodies such as International Federation of Purchasing and
Supply Management (IFPSM) in UK and International Trade Centre (ITC) in
Geneva which is the technical corporation agency of the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The Minister wished and congratulated the students who passed out.
Guest of honour Ong Jhon Seon Jay said that he was impressed with the
quality of professionals produced and he is very much satisfied with the
sponsorship he made towards the success of this event. The Institute of
Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) President Danesha Perera said
that the institute has taken all the steps to give the best educational
program to the students. He said that this is the highest qualification
that anyone can obtain in the field of supply chain management in Sri
Lanka and up to now ISMM has produced a large number of professionals by
offering a very extensive study program.
It includes 13 modules and the study programs are structured in such
a manner that students are given the opportunity to get the exposure to
a wide area of supply chain management.
He said that it is difficult for the government to bring solutions to
burning issues alone and ISMM is willing to partner the responsibility
to produce good citizens with knowledge and skills to shoulder the
development programs launched by the government.
The professionals produced by ISMM are holding very high positions in
the private sector and it is evident that the qualification obtained
through the study program gives the unlimited benefit to the students.
Perera said that they undertake consultancies in the area of their
expertise and have panel of consultants with a wide area of knowledge
and skills available to render services on request.
ISMM is currently having nearly 750 corporate members and some of the
professionals who are performing in the field of SCM have been
recognized by awarding the fellow membership.
