Job fair, higher education exhibition in Hambantota
Partners HDCC, World Vision :
The Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) in collaboration
with the World Vision Lunugamvehera Regional Development Program and the
Hambantota District Secretariat is organizing a job fair and the higher
education exhibition at the Hambantota Singapore Conference Hall on
April 28.
HDCC is the foremost representative of the private sector in the
Hambantota District and its mission is to act as the 'gateway' for
development, ensuring the social cohesion and economic success of the
Hambantota District. As a social responsibility, but also as a
contribution to the economic development of the District, HDCC manages
the Career Service Centre (CSC) and the Youth Business Sri Lanka Program
(YBSL) which provide services and benefits to young people in the
Hambantota District.
The key functions of the CSC are to monitor employment opportunities,
to match young job seekers , and to arrange the provision of appropriate
training courses and encourage vocational training. YBSL aims to help
young people - who otherwise would not have the opportunity - to develop
their self-confidence and achieve economic independence through the
medium of self-employment.
Based on the experience gained in organizing job fairs and higher
education exhibitions in the past, the HDCC is presently organizing the
job fair and higher education exhibition this year too, with the
objective of placing unemployed youth in employment, providing them with
self-employment opportunities and providing them with guidance to
develop their potential and talents in vocational activities.
More than 30 private companies who are seeking to employ staff and
professional organizations who provide career skills and self-employment
will be participating at the event such as Sonak Lanka, David Peiries,
LOLC, John Keels, Ceylinco Cisco etc. Training providers such as the
Technical Collage, the Vocational training Authority NAITA, AAT, CIMA,
Orient Academy, ICBT , MAL etc. will be participating in this event.
During the event group career counseling programs will be conducted.
Ruhuna University will conduct a special seminar on "self-employment
opportunities". Self employment service providers in the district will
organize a "Self-Employment Piyasa" in the Job fair. The keynote speech
will be delivered by well-known consultant and trainer Mohan
Palliyaguru. More than 2000 job seekers will be given an opportunity to
meet company representatives and professionals. This will be indeed a
new experience for the youth of the area.
