Counselling for prisoners

The Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry will conduct psychological counselling programs for prison inmates aimed at strengthening their mental abilities when they enter society, Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera said.

The special psychological program will help in their reintegration process, Minister Gajadeera added.

The Minister said the program aims to make a psychological change in the inmates to identify themselves as valuable citizens. The program will prevent inmates from being marginalized in the society, he said.

Gajadeera said that the Ministry will deploy inmates in various activities which bring benefits to both inmates and the country.

The inmates' labour can be used in various activities that would benefit them economically.

The ultimate aim of this psychological counselling is to convince the inmates to be productive citizen who love the country. They will realize that their contribution is needed to take the country forward, the Minister said.
