Australia bundled out for 98 runs

England were closing in on the Ashes after routing Australia for 98 and cruising to a 59-run first-innings lead on the opening day of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Van der Sar may retire

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said Thursday he expects Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar to retire at the end of the season. Ferguson said United were already planning for life without van der Sar on the pitch, although the 40-year-old Holland international could possibly stay on as a coach at Old Trafford.
