Robbery foiled, one killed

A robber was killed and another arrested during a shoot out with the Police as an attempt to rob a pawn shop by a three member armed gang in Maharagama was foiled yesterday morning.

Two Police teams have been deployed to apprehend a third member of the gang who had fled the scene.

Maharagama police had arrived at the scene following a tip-off around 9.15 am as the gang attempted to rob the shop.

Later a shoot out had occurred between the armed robbers and the Police. One robber had succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the hospital.

The Police said that they had recovered weapons and ammunition from the robbers.

Two police teams are investigating the incident.
