Teachers trained in sign language, Braille

The Education Ministry’s Special Education Unit launched a project to
train teachers in sign language and Braille.

The training of the ordinary teachers in sign language and Braille
Alphabet will be done at the National Institute of Education in batches.
The teachers who receive training at the NIE will train the other
teachers in their schools.
“Over 200 ordinary teachers had been trained and released to schools
up to date,” Education Ministry Special Education Unit Director H P N
Lakshman told the Daily News.
The Government is planning to appoint at least one person who is
competent in sign language to all the Government officers and public
places to help impaired persons.
