He said that our roads had been designed nearly 50 years ago. “The
Government is making arrangements to upgrade the condition of roads to
control traffic congestion on our highways. Traffic accidents are on the
rise since the roads are not properly prepared for the large number of
vehicles plying daily,” he said.
He was speaking at a ceremony to distribute certificates among 79
Junior Traffic Police personnel who successfully completed the Junior
Traffic Management Course held during the last two and a half months at
the Police Headquarters and Kalutara Police Training College.
The certificates were distributed by Senior DIG Illangakoon, Senior
DIG Jayantha Gamage, Senior DIG K P P Pathirana and DIGs Sisira Mendis,
Asoka Wijethilaka, Anura Senanayake, Dalpadadu, Senior SP Willie
Abeyanayaka and SP Priyasanth Jayakody.
The Junior Traffic Management Course was jointly organized by Crimes
Intelligence Police Narcotics Bureau, Child Development and Women
Empowerment Bureau with the assistance of several Government
institutions.
Senior DIG Illangakoon also said that it is important to educate the
public and motorists to maintain law and order while reducing traffic
accidents.
He noted that the newly trained traffic police personnel will be
helpful to reduce fatal road accidents increasing daily. |
