Investment of 25 m Sterling Pounds:
British university to be established

Plans are under way to establish a reputed British university in Sri
Lanka for the first time with an investment of 25 million Sterling
Pounds. A top ranking team from the British university is expected to
make the official announcement of this project early February next year.

The foreign university has sought assistance from Uwa Wellessa
University (UWU) Vice Chancellor Chandra Embuldeniya in setting up this
exclusive university in the country within the next five years.
UWU Vice Chancellor Embuldeniya said the proposed university will be
unique as it is expected to run programs focused on the market needs of
the region extendable to global needs.
But Sri Lanka will be benefited in a big way as most of the global
needs of Sri Lankan industries also will be met by this university.
There will be 21 undergraduate programs for a period of four years
initially which include programs related to tourism, hospitality,
shipping, aviation, automobile, computer based industries and film
industry.
It is expected to introduce post graduate programs from the second
year.
Both local and foreign students will be accommodated at affordable
prices. Specially for UK students it will be less than half the UK
prices.
Five thousand students will be accommodated for all programs at the
beginning and all these programs will be residential. All students
completing undergraduate programs successfully will be given industrial
placements in multinational companies locally and internationally.
Embuldeniya said that two lands in Hambantota and Kandy areas have
been identified to build this university and awaiting necessary
approvals from the authorities in those areas.
There will be a lot of new opportunities for the country by way of
employment, education and infrastructure development. |
