Prisoners attack Police

Forty-five policemen attached to the Colombo Division were injured following an attack by several convicted prisoners of the ‘Chapel Ward’ at the Welikada Prison yesterday morning. Police Media Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said the police team raided the Welikada Prison Chapel ward yesterday morning after obtaining a warrant from the Colombo Magistrate to search for drugs and illegal items hidden in the ward.

Police nab couple

A couple who allegedly withdrew money from an account of a Galle Municipal Council employee were remanded till November 11. The duo had withdrawn money from two accounts maintained at a State Bank, Police said.

Police crackdown on drug traffickers

Around 3,135 suspects involved in hard drug trafficking were arrested last week by the Police Department special unit to eradicate the drug menace. Four hundred and ninety five High Court cases are pending against these suspects, while over 9,061 grams of hard drugs had been taken into custody by the special unit.
