Withdrawing Rs 456,000 from MC workers’ account:

Police nab couple

A couple who allegedly withdrew money from an account of a Galle Municipal Council employee were remanded till November 11. The duo had withdrawn money from two accounts maintained at a State Bank, Police said.

The Galle Police said that the suspects had withdrawn Rs 456,000 by forging the Galle Municipal Council worker’s signature. The chief suspect had been visiting the woman, a widow, for some time and robbed her National Identity card and Bank savings books. The suspect had then gone to the Bank with his wife and withdrawn the money.

The Police obtained a court order to view video records maintained by the Bank to identify the suspects.
