Community service marks first Formation Day

Celebrations at Air Force Museum:

A day of community service marked the celebration of the first anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum Ratmalana last Friday.

The Museum which was originally set up as the Aircraft Preservation and Storage Unit (AP&SU) in 1993 has been restructured as the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum. It is the only museum dedicated to aviation and the history of Sri Lanka Air Force in the island.

The modernization of the Air Force museum was a brainchild of Chief of Defence Staff and Air Force Commander, Air Chief Marshal W D M R J Goonetileke. New Exhibits and facilities have been added to the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum.

The Formation Day commemoration celebrations began with a parade at the Base premises under the inspection of the SLAF Museum Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Malinda Perera.

He is the first Commanding Officer of the Air Force Museum.

Coinciding with the formation day celebrations, a lunch was organized at the museum for inmates of the Gangodawila Girls Home. The girls’ were joined by the museum personnel of the Air Force for lunch. Prior to lunch, they toured the museum.
