The General Insurance Business and the Long Term Insurance Business have shown growth in overall Gross Written Premium (GWP) Incomes during the first half of 2010 when compared to the same period of 2009.

Cement Corporation to revamp factory:

Sri Lanka Cement Corporation in collaboration with the Government will construct a hotel and an international hotel school in Kankesanthurai with a total investment of Rs 700 million.

UDA announces debenture allocations

Urban Development Authority (UDA) announced allotment of UDA Rs 10 billion debenture issue yesterday. The UDA has allocated Rs 53 million debentures for investors below Rs 10 million as an encouragement of small-scale resident investors.

Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardhana met UNTO Secretary General Dr Talib Rifai during the UNWTO World Tourism Conference held in Malaysia. They discussed ways to develop Sri Lanka Tourism and possibilities of obtaining UNWTO assistance for Sri Lanka Tourism Development. Sri Lanka will host the 23rd UNWTO Commission for Asia Meeting next year. Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Acting Managing Director Malraj Kiriella and Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Dr Nalaka Godahewa were also present. Minister also met Malaysian Tourism Minister Panglima Musa Aman and held discussions on tourism development between the two countries.
