Hotel, hotel school in KKS

Cement Corporation to revamp factory:

Sri Lanka Cement Corporation in collaboration with the Government will construct a hotel and an international hotel school in Kankesanthurai with a total investment of Rs 700 million.

The 777 acres of land belonging to the Cement Corporation has been reserved to implement the project. The construction work of the project is to commence shortly.

Cement Corporation Chairman Sisira Paranagama said the Corporation has set up a factory in Jaffna to manufacture electricity poles, cement blocks and cylinders providing 100 job opportunities for the youth in the area.

The Corporation is also expected to generate more than 500 job opportunities before the end of this year through the factory.

“We have drawn a massive plan for the next five years. Accordingly, the Corporation hopes to increase the current cement production up to 100 percent within the stipulated time frame. The Government is also planning to reopen the Kankesanthurai cement plant with a large amount of investment shortly,” Paranagama said.

The annual cement production of the country is four million metric tonnes per annum and the current cement consumption in the country is 4.5 million metric tonnes per annum and annually over 200,000 metric tonnes of cement is being imported to Sri Lanka. He said it is expected to record a huge growth by cement industry in Sri Lanka in years to come with the increasing cement consumption in the country.

The cement consumption has increased as a result of ongoing infrastructure development projects including road network projects in the Northern and Southern Provinces in the country.
