Lanka yet to tap Pakistan tea market

Sri Lankan exports to Pakistan under the Pakistan - Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (PSFTA) is still dominated by traditional export products while Pakistan is encouraging non-traditional products from Sri Lanka, Institute of Policy Studies Executive Director Dr Saman Kelegama said.

High hardware, software cost hampers ICT growth

School lab project progressing well:

The Government has established 5000 computer laboratories in Government schools islandwide to enhance student ICT skills. They hope to provide ICT skills for schoolchildren from their tender years. Addressing the Infotel inauguration ceremony Technology and Research Minister Prof Tissa Vitarana said plans have been initiated to set up more computer laboratories in the schools in the face of limited ICT penetration in the country.

Travel and tourism sector is one of the early beneficiaries of the post war recovery. Tourist arrivals have been increased by 49 percent during the first seven months of this year. Many companies in travel industry now bring travel agents around the world for familiarization tours in Sri Lanka to attract more tourists to the country. A large number of travel agents from Holland arrived last Friday in Sri Lanka for a special familiarization tour.
