Gillard visits troops in Afghanistan

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has flown to Afghanistan to personally pay tribute to Australian troops fighting in Afghanistan, while honoring the 21 soldiers killed in the conflict since 2001, Australia’s media reported Sunday. Gillard arrived in Afghanistan Saturday afternoon to see the Australian troops, and to discuss the country ‘s military presence in Afghanistan with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad arrived Tehran Saturday to meet with his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and other officials in order to discuss the complex situation in the Middle East, as well as to strengthen bilateral links.

Indonesia’s train crash:

Death toll hits 35

The death toll in the train crash occurred early Saturday morning in Petarukan of Indonesia’s Central Java has reached 35 with possibilities to increase, as 36 injured were still struggling to survive from death, a state-run train firm official said here Sunday.
