Kingswood College rugby champs

Kingswood College won the Cup Championship while St Joseph’s College
– Plate Championship and D S Senanayake the Bowl Championship at the all
island schools under 16 division one twelve-a-side rugby tournament
organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association and
sponsored by Milo and concluded at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy
yesterday.
Cup Championship
In the Cup final, Kingswood College scored a 7 points (1 goal) to nil
win over Trinity College. At half time there was no scoring.
For the winners winger Imedo Dilshan scored the try and flanker Asela
Wijesinghe added the extra points.

In the quarter finals Royal College beat St. Anthony’s College 12-0,
Kingswood College beat Dharmaraja College 12-5, S. Thomas’ College,
Mount Lavinia beat St Peter’s College 7-3, Trinity College beat
Isipatana 12-5.
In the Cup semi-finals, Kingswood College beat Royal College 15-5,
Trinity College beat S Thomas’ College 5-0.
Plate Championship
St Joseph’s College scored a close 10 points (2 tries) to 5 (1 try)
win over Wesley
College to take the Plate Championship. At half time the scores stood
at 5-all.
The Josephian scored through lock forward Shehan Bopearachchi and
skipper and winger Hasiru Gunawardena which went unconverted.
For the Wesleyites H. Azmin scored an unconverted try.

In the semi finals, St Joseph’s College beat Science College, Mount
Lavinia 17-0, and Wesley College beat Lumbini Maha Vidyalaya 5-0.
In the quarter finals St Joseph’s College beat Mahanama College 7-0,
Science College beat Thurstan College 7-0, Wesley College beat Vidyartha
College 5-0, and Lumbini MV beat St Sylvester’s College 5-0.
Bowl Championship
D S Senanayake College became Bowl Champions by defeating Maliyadeva
College by 14 points (2 goals) to nil. At half time D S Senanayake
College led 7-0.
Malinga Wijekoon and Nakeed Niyas scored tries for D S Senanayake
College with Chamath Perera adding the extra points.
In the shield finals C W W Kannangara beat Royal College, Panadura by
10 points (2 tries) to nil. |
