Fabiano signs new Sevilla deal
Tottenham’s bid to sign Luis Fabiano has failed after the Brazil
striker signed a new deal with Sevilla on Monday, tying him to the
Spanish club until 2013.
Spurs boss Redknapp confirmed that contact had been made with Sevilla
over the player but the Premier League club was discouraged by the
asking price.
Caroline Wozniacki top seed
Caroline Wozniacki will take the top seed and the confidence of a
third straight WTA New Haven title into the US Open next week. The Dane
defeated Russian eighth seed Nadia Petrova 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 Saturday to
claim a third consecutive crown in the Pilot Pen hard court tournament,
the last event before the start of the US Open on Monday.

Birthday boy Uihlein wins US Amateur
Peter Uihlein made the most of his 21st birthday by defeating David
Chung four and two on Sunday to capture the 110th US Amateur
Championship. Uihlein won the event by holding off a back-nine charge
from Chung at the Chambers Bay golf course. Uihlein was leading by two
following the first 18 holes in the morning.

Wie captures Canadian Women’s Open
American Michelle Wie won her second career title going wire-to-wire
to capture the LPGA Canadian Women’s Open on Sunday. She fired a
two-under 70 to reach 12 under after four rounds at the St. Charles
Country Club for a three-stroke win over Shin Ji-yai, Suzann Pettersen,
Young Jee Lee and Kristy McPherson.
