Quran recital
The Recitation of Holy Quran in one night Tharaveen prayers at
Dewatagaha Shaikh Usman Woliyullah Shrine and Jummah Masjid will be held
for the Third time by Al Hafil Moulavi MRM Rilwan on September 4,
immediately after Isha prayers at 8.15 p.m.
Vidatha Centre opening
The 262nd Vidatha Centre planned by the Technology and Research
Ministry will be opened by Minister Prof Tissa Vitharana at
Meegahakiwula, Badulla on August 31 at 11 a.m. Irrigation and Water
Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and several other
Parliamentarians will also be present.
Atavisi Buddha Pooja
An Atavisi Buddha Pooja organized by the Bambalapitiya Flats Buddhist
Society will be held on September 5 at 6.30 p.m. at the Bambalapitiya
Flats Buddhist Society Hall. This is one of a series of events organized
to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bambalapitiya Flats Buddhist
Society.

Gunewardene, the former Acting Consultant Director/Chief Editor of the
official government website www.news.lk, under the Media Ministry.
Gunewardene earlier served as Senior Associate Editor of the Daily News
and Sunday Observer before retirement in March this year.
SLCTB Hotline
The SLCTB has introduced a hotline to entertain complaints from
commuters on a 24 hour basis and take immediate remedial action in an
effort to ensure a better and efficient bus service to the public.
The hotline is 011-7555555. SLCTB Chairman M D Bandusena said
complaints received between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day would be attended
to the same day while complaints received after 7 p.m. each day would be
attended to the following day.
Two dead in tractor mishap

Two persons died and three other were badly injured when a tractor
they were travelling plunged into a precipice at Weragoda on the
Marongahawele-Uvatenna road, Balangoda Sunday.
The dead are D M Ananda, 32, and P M Kumarasinghe Bandara, 52, both
of Kumbalgama, Belihul-oya.

The Ceylon Electricity board special investigation unit detected 67
persons who had pirated electricity by fixing hooks to the electricity
lines and manipulating electricity metres during raids conducted in
Chilaw and Mundalama with police assistance Sunday morning. |
