University lecturers have decided to postpone the trade union action
until September 7 following a request from President's Secretary Lalith
Weeratunga. Earlier university lecturers planned not to report for work
on August 30, University Teachers' Associations' federation President
Prof.Sampath Amaratunga told the Daily News.
The federation had a discussion with Lalith Weeratunga on August 17
and he promised to solve the problem within one week, but he had to go to
India on August 24 for an official matter. Again he has asked one week
time to consider the problem. The federation hopes positive response
from him over the issue Amaratunga said.
The university teachers' associations' federation is demanding to
increase their academic allowance from 25 percent to 50 percent. |
