A bet that went too far

A youth who kissed and embraced a woman cashier of a hotel in broad daylight to win a bet taken with a colleague after drinks had to face the wrath of the woman’s husband and languish in remand custody.

The youth, a resident of Handungamuwa, Galnewa had accompanied a friend to a restaurant in Galnewa to enjoy some hot drinks.

After gulping a few drinks, the two had left the restaurant in high spirits and his colleague had taken a bet with him saying he would pay him Rs 500 if he could enter a hotel on the way and kiss its woman cashier in public.

The youth displaying his dutch courage had soon entered the hotel and embraced and kissed the woman cashier notwithstanding her cries. The woman’s husband who was also in the hotel had grabbed the youth, beaten him up and handed him over to Galnewa Police. The suspect was produced before Kekirawa District Judge and Magistrate Srinith Wijesekara and remanded till June 18.
