Murder case:

Police exhume remains

Ayagama Police exhumed the remains of a man on Sunday, who was murdered and buried in Vithanagama area secretly.

Victim Pathagama Anguruthotage Nimal Premasiri (38) of Udagedarakanda, Vithanagama was killed on April 1 at Vithanagama.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News that the Premasiri was killed by assaulting him on the head with a knife. The Police arrested a suspect on April 18 and the remains were exhumed on the information obtained from him. The Police said the crime was committed as a result of a prolonged grudge. The remains were sent to the Ratnapura Hospital for the postmortem. The Ratnapura Magistrate ordered to remand the suspect until April 27. The Ayagama Police is conducting investigations.

Meanwhile Balangoda Police initiated an investigation on an incident of a murder of a person at Panugalgoda by assaulting him on the head with a knife allegedly by his brother on Sunday. The victim was identified as S.S. Nishantha (38) of Panugalgoda, Belihuloya. The Police said the suspect has assaulted the victim after a heated argument. The Police arrested the suspect.
