Panel discussion on Intellectual Property Rights
April 26, 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of World Intellectual
Property (IP) Day, and the 40th anniversary of the entry into force of
the Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization
(WIPO). This year's World IP Day theme, "Innovation - linking the world"
focuses on how innovation has created and continues to foster, physical,
intellectual, social, and cultural connections among individuals and
societies around the world. The American Centre with the Faculty of Law
(Colombo University) will be hosting a panel discussion on Intellectual
Property Rights with eminent panelists to help raise awareness about the
importance of intellectual property to the global economy at Faculty of
Law, University of Colombo at 4 p.m. on April 26.
Panelists are, National Intellectual Property Office of Sri Lanka
Director General Dr. D.M. Karunaratne, Colombo University Law Faculty
Dean N. Selvakumaran and President's Counsel Dinal Phillips. Soundarie
David-Rodrigo will give an introduction on Intellectual Property Law and
provide a brief comparison between U.S. and Sri Lankan IP Law at the
discussion.
