Electric fence, a white elephant

The electric fence erected to protect the public and their properties in the Balangoda and Thanamalwila Divisional Secretary Divisions from wild elephants in the Udawalawa National Park has become a white elephant.

Also it was erected neglecting the Southern part of the park and has not been maintained the erected parts due to lack of labourers and funds.

This was revealed at a meeting of the Gaja mithuro organisation held at the Balangoda Divisional Secretariat chaired by Balangoda Additional Divisional Secretary G.D.L. Kumara with the participation of Wild Life Range Officer Wimal Kaluarachchi, Park OIC Prasanna L. Wimaladasa and other Divisional officials and farmers.
