Thai PM rejects dissolution
Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Monday
rejected an ultimatum by tens of thousands of protesters to dissolve
Parliament or face further demonstrations. “The protesters have
demanded that I dissolve the house before midday (0500 GMT) today,
but the coalition parties agree the demand cannot be met,” Abhisit
said on national television, from a barracks where he moved for the
rally.

FIjI:A powerful cyclone battered Fiji’s northern
islands Monday, damaging homes and crops as thousands of people fled
to evacuation centres, officials said. Cyclone Tomas was classified
as a category-four cyclone — the second-most destructive on a
five-point scale — and was packing winds averaging up to 175
kilometres (109 miles) an hour, the Fiji Meteorological Service
(FMS) said.
