Siddique, Rahim delay England win

Bangladesh were left with a stiff task to save the opening Test against England at close of play Monday, despite a fighting half-century from Junaid Siddique. Left-handed Siddique made an unbeaten 68 as Bangladesh struggled to reach 191-5 in their second innings at stumps on the penultimate day, chasing an improbable 513-run target.

Philippines celebrate Pacquiao triumph

Filipinos rejoiced Sunday at boxing hero Manny Pacquiao’s victory in the United States after the country’s electricity provider pulled out all the stops to ensure people could watch the fight. Live coverage of the 12-round fight between Pacquiao and Ghana’s Joshua Clottey went without a hitch after Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes warned: “If people don’t get to watch Manny Pacquiao, it’s big trouble. That is a national catastrophe.”

Zheng battles past Sharapova

China’s Zheng Jie battled past former champion Maria Sharapova 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 Sunday to reach the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open. Zheng, whose run to the Australian Open semi-finals along with that of compatriot Li Na electrified Chinese tennis, next faces Alicia Molik, with a chance to avenge her first round loss to the Australian in Dubai last month.
